Plextor ConvertX
From MythTV
The Plextor ConvertX series are external devices that connect to your computer via USB 2.0. The following hardware encoder models support M-JPEG, MPEG-1 (VCD), MPEG-2 (SVCD, DVD) and MPEG-4 (DivX) with PCM (uncompressed) audio. Native Linux support is provided by GPL kernel drivers; they work with the V4L2 (video4linux) modules.
- PX-TV402U-NA ("North American"/NTSC)
- S-video input
- Composite input
- RF/Coaxial (NTSC) input
Two additional ConvertX models exist: the PX-AV100U and PX-TV100U. Plextor's Web site describes these models as supporting MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 encoding but not MPEG-4. The specifications mention software encoding. Whether these devices can be made to work with MythTV is unknown.

Multiple Devices
It is possible to use more than one of these devices on the same machine, at least I (SDibb) have two of them working with 0.18.1. This *should* scale up to the limit of the USB bus.
